A retro LiveJournal entry for our readers who will be traveling over the holidays.

When stuck in a small snow bank or snow drift, do not spin your tires. Getting unstuck is a lot like sex. With a gentle rocking motion your car will be out in under 7 minutes, and you'll be happy once again.

Spinning the tires will NEVER help the situation. This will only stress the motor and make the situation worse. The spinning wheels are creating friction between the snow and your tires making the snow melt. This melted snow becomes frozen due to the cold air temperature and by spinning the tires, you have just created: ICE. Therefore, if you gently start the car forward, then stop quick, put the car into reverse, stop quick, put the car into drive, and continue this rocking motion, you will be done and gone from the scene in a jiffy.

To those of you who got out and voted yesterday (for whichever candidate you wanted), great job. To those of you who chose not to... *points* It's all your fault! It's all your fault!

Jenny got the win over DeVos, and I was pleasantly greeted with this email today:

What impresses me is the fact that Jenny opened her thanks to everyone with this line:
This is a victory for the single mom in Marquette who worries about how to make sure her daughter can afford to go to college. This is a victory for the laid off worker in Livonia who saw his family’s health care benefits disappear with his job. This is a victory for young people across our state who want nothing more than to find good jobs here when they graduate from college. It wasn't Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, Kalamanowhere, or even Traverse City that she thanked first... It was Marquette.

I'd like to thank Jenny for her continued support of the UP, and a wonderful next four years! :)

Going out of my mind these days,
Like I'm walkin' round in a haze,
I cant think straight, I cant concentrate,
And I need to shave.

I go to work and I look tired,
The boss man said "Son you gonna get fired",
This ain't your style, and behind my coffee cup,
I just smile.

"You look really dishevelled, like you haven't slept well," says the Field Supervisor to me this morning...

Part of me not sleeping right is because I'm excited to see Casey after a long hiatus away from each other in a week. The other part is nerves and restlessness because I don't know what's going on with my job (yet again, as usual, nothing new). Apparently they've now hired a construction firm to oversee our jobs and the owner may pull the plug on us. This marks the 58th week of being "week to week" for my job so I'm used to that.

Sadly, I haven't been able to find work elsewhere. I got rejection notices from a half dozen places here in Chicago, a rejection notice from one Atlanta company, and haven't heard back from another five yet. It continues to be frustrating. But I'm dealing... kinda... sorta...

Intinery for the following few weeks:

Upcoming weekend: In MQT for NMU vs. Toronto (and maybe Border Grill for lunch)
October 6-8: In Green Bay for NMU vs. Wisconsin
October 14: Chicago Wolves home opener vs. the Milwaukee "Cartoon Network" Sadmirals.

Anyone notice a pattern?

Facebook has turned into MySpace.

Krishna Dagli writes to mention a BusinessWeek article about a move by Facebook to open up to the public. Up until now, in order to join Facebook you had to be an alumnus from certain High Schools, Colleges, or companies. Soon, individuals living in any one of 500 'geographic regions' can sign up. From the article:

"People who joined Facebook because it was primarily a school-focused network may feel that it's losing a key distinction. As with the 'news feed' announcement, reception to this overhaul will come down to how well Facebook communicates. For the average student at New York University, for instance, little changes. The only people who can browse his profile before were other NYU students and that will stay the same. The change simply allows for 500 new groups to form that all operate independently on the Facebook platform. No one can browse all 9 million registered users."

Well, I'm happy to know that it's still retaining it's privacy in that others can't go and view my full profile unless they're linked to me. But I really don't appreciate losing the collegiate feel. Oh well. :(

Once again it's time for....

My weekly/bi-weekly/monthly slam of Dick DeVos.

This makes me giggle.

And join my facebook group! (If you're a Michigan registered voter, and you're a supporter of Jennifer Granholm.)

I picked up a game to play over the weekend on the PS2 that I'm borrowing from a friend. It's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

It's fucking awesome.

I swear I'm the last person on earth to play it though. It's exactly what I've wished some game makers would do. There's a massive map to explore all the city streets and different regions; a variety of cars to select (or jack from people), the whole "Need for Speed" series out run the cops, and an actual game story line (which I haven't gotten to far into yet).

This, dare I say, is almost more addicting than The Sims.

Ahh, archive.org, you're flooding me with memories of Freshman year at NMU.

Between the memories of fighting with SOLAR to register for classes, the start page on my laptop, the old sports news, and even when I used to be the star pitcher on the baseball team... there's a whole lot of reminiscing happening on those sites.
